Gran Fondo Amsterdam
90km of wind, rain and pushing myself.
Time: 9 am
Breakfast: Protein bar
Insulin: None
Distance: 90km
Integration: 4 gels, 2 protein bars
Timing: Every 40 min
Additional Insulin: None
Interesting point of reflection: The glucose is dropping steadily without needing any additional insulin. The only insulin active is the basal insulin, Tresiba, which I have injected at 8 am.
The effort was Zone 2 and 3: Training in these zones causes a steady drop of glucose steady. The first part of the ride is characterised by a spike caused the absence of insulin, but the glucose keeps dropping or being stable while continuing to eat.
Ride Timeframe: 11 am till 13 pm the glucose stays stable, and i manage to push.
Conclusion: Higher integration during my bike ride significantly improved my performance
Women's hormones and performance: In this bike ride, I was on my period (bleeding phase of my cycle), which was not the most comfortable situation to ride to. The glucose was stable and prone to drop as the stress hormones are reduced during this phase.
